Hawaii police are reminding drivers that Thursday will be the first day all public schools are in session.

Hawaii police are reminding drivers that Thursday will be the first day all public schools are in session.

This means an increase in traffic, police said, especially in school zones.

Sgt. Robert Pauole of the Traffic Services Section suggests adjusting the daily schedule and starting a day earlier to avoid the temptation to rush while commuting to work. Also, while driving within school zones, police advise caution and be attentive to children walking to school and crossing in marked crosswalks.

Additionally, police remind motorists that one-way traffic patterns will be in effect in Hilo on Waianuenue Avenue and on Kapiolani Street between Waianuenue Avenue and Haili Street.
